The University of Georgia College of Engineering is home to extensive state-of-the-art learning,researchandcore facilitiesused by faculty and students to tackle the world's greatest challenges. An investment of more than $80 million in our instructional and research mission will generate a two-fold increase in our research space in the next two-to-three years. At the same time, we're transforming the learning environment for our undergraduate and graduate programs by investing in a major renovation of our instructional hub, the Driftmier Engineering Center.

Interdisciplinary Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Research Building 1

The first phase of theUniversity of Georgia's Interdisciplinary Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Research Complexopened on Nov. 30, 2021.

The 100,000-square-foot I-STEM Research Building 1 features flexible, open lab spaces designed to promote collaboration and elevate UGA’s expanding lab-intensive research activities, particularly within the disciplines of chemistry, engineering and material sciences. It will soon be united with a phase 2 building, which is currently under construction.

Driftmier Engineering Center

The Driftmier Engineering Center serves the heart of UGA's undergraduate and graduate programs. The 110,000-square-foot building, constructed in 1966, is undergoing a major revitalization. Thefirst phaseof the project significantly expanded and enhanced instructional laboratories and classrooms while adding new spaces for collaborative work. The second phase of the renovation opened in 2021, adding new instructional and collaborative spaces.

Boyd Research and Education Center

Riverbend Research Laboratory

The Riverbend Research Complex houses research labs and offices for faculty and students spanning biomedical, biological, materials and device work. Major facilities include our micro/nano fabrication facility,high-velocity water flow tunneland a broad range of characterization capabilities.

Whitehall Engineering Education and Research Campus

The Whitehall Engineering Education and Research Campus features large-scale research and testing facilities for all engineering disciplines. The campus includes the Structural Engineering Testing Hub (STRENGTH Lab), which provides both structural and materials testing capabilities. The Geomaterials Laboratory is also located at Whitehall, with facilities to conduct fundamental geotechnical engineering testing.
